Champions Monaco held to a draw

The last game of the season saw Monaco travel to Shafts, the bright Springtime weather very much giving the game an end of season vibe. And that’s how it played out.

On a narrow pitch the ball seemed to spend more time 8n the air than on the ground. Shafts crowded the midfield and Monaco struggled to link the play with the midfield too deep.

Josh opened the scoring after a fantastic through ball from Kylan was missed by the Shafts keeper, with Josh following up to fire the ball home. 1-0.

It was a game of very few chances, Monaco have been involved in a lot of high intensity games of late, but this certainly wasn’t one of them. The game was almost a non event.

A mistake by the Shafts defended let Max poke the ball past the keeper but some excellent defending from another Shafts defender saw him slide in and clear it off the line for a corner. Unfortunately for him Isaac whipped in a peach and another Shafts defender deflected the ball home. 2-0. Ironically it was how Monaco first started the league campaign, Isaac had done the same against Greenleas.

But that wasn’t the end of the scoring in this game. Shafts had a free kick from quite far out, they floated the ball towards goal and Charlie could only palm it away and the Shafts forward ran in and smashed the ball ho e. 2-1

Before the end the Shafts forward managed to break away down the left, and then some indecision from the Monaco defenders saw him fire the ball home. 2-2.

It’s been an entertaining season for Monaco with some fine football played, but this game will be quickly forgotten.

Man of the match was Leighton who had thwarted many Shafts attacks all day, much to the dismay of the Shafts coaches.
